Slender Rasbora

Rasbora daniconius

The Slender Rasbora is a small freshwater fish native to Sri Lanka and widely distributed across South Asia. In Sri Lanka, it is commonly found in rivers, streams, ponds, irrigation canals, and other freshwater habitats, especially in lowland areas with slow to moderate water flow. It has a slender body with a distinctive dark horizontal stripe running along its side, helping it blend into its surroundings. This active schooling fish usually moves in groups and feeds on small insects, insect larvae, plankton, algae, and other tiny aquatic organisms. The Slender Rasbora is one of Sri Lanka’s common native freshwater fishes and plays an important role in maintaining the balance of aquatic ecosystems.
