Golden Rasbora

Rasboroides vaterifloris

The Golden Rasbora is a small freshwater fish endemic to Sri Lanka, found primarily in the shaded forest streams of the island’s wet zone. It inhabits clear, slow-moving waters with leaf litter, submerged roots, and dense streamside vegetation that provide shelter and breeding sites. This peaceful schooling fish is admired for its bright golden to orange coloration and graceful swimming behaviour. It feeds on small aquatic insects, insect larvae, zooplankton, algae, and other tiny aquatic organisms. As one of Sri Lanka’s most attractive endemic freshwater fishes, the Golden Rasbora is highly valued in the ornamental fish trade and serves as an important indicator of healthy forest stream ecosystems.
